Maseda and his 'Poor Diabla' raise 20,000 euros at the TWB Awards charity gala

The artist Maseda was the main protagonist in the charity gala of the TWB Awards Andorra magazine. The painter won the artist of the year 2023 award and donated one of his best-known works, Pobre Diabla, a portrait of actress Marilyn Monroe. A charity event in which the host, the fashion and lifestyle magazine The Whitebook Andorra (TWB), recognizes talent, both nationally and internationally, from different sectors and in which the artist was awarded this year.

The work was sold for 20,000 euros to patron and investor Cris Bouwer, the owner of the art gallery that represents Maseda in Andorra. The gala, held this week, featured a dinner and an auction where this year the beneficiary was the Josep Carreras Foundation in its fight and research against leukemia.

The emerging painter is renowned for his emotionally charged black and white portraits with splashes of colour. His tormented and famous characters do not go unnoticed. In its latest collection of portraits of him, The 27 Club pays tribute to musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones and Basquiat who died too young.

His works combine the portraiture of characters with fluorescent pink spots, a detail that has become a distinctive element of his signature. The use of graffiti and street art was what led The Whitebook Andorra to recognize his talent.

But it is not the first time that Maseda has sold one of his works for such a high amount. In the last edition of the Starlite Porcelanosa gala, his portrait of Antonio Banderas from Malaga reached 40,000 euros. Poor Diabla is an iconic piece of his collection with which he attracted his most loyal fans and critics.
