Mamen García, actress of 'La que se cerca', is also the voice of the Mercadona song

When we think of 'typical Spanish' things, a list with a large number of things comes to mind. Two of them are, without a doubt, the series La que se cerca and one of our most recognized supermarkets, Mercadona. But what kind of relationship do these two candidates have on the list? The answer is the actress Mamen García, who participated in the production and is also the voice of the traditional supermarket song.

The Mercadona song is one of the catchiest tunes in our country, and it has been playing for more than 30 years in all the supermarkets that the Valencian company has around our territory. However, although we are all very familiar with this topic, few know that it is Mamen who is behind the voice of "Mercadooona, Mercadona."

Now, the Valencian performer has revealed to Cadena Ser that that song was recorded in 1986, and that she was paid "60 bucks, that is, 10,000 pesetas at that time" for it. Over time, supermarkets would gain relevance and this song would expand beyond the Valencian borders, and although the melody is still heard decades later, García has not earned any more money for it. And that is one of the most recognized 'anthems' in Spain.

There are very few people who know that information, and the actress assures that she does not want to "publicize it, because they don't need it either." For García it is "incredible that the same melody can still be heard." Although the supermarket chain chaired by Juan Roig does not invest in advertising, it does not need it either, since everyone already has the melody sung by Mamen in their heads.

But this is not the only interview in which the actress has addressed the topic. In another interview with FormulaTV, she explained that when she recorded the song, in 1986, she "made quite a few jingles in a studio in Valencia." "I made some (jingles) for Christmas and I made the button, and the button has stayed. On YouTube there are thousands of versions of that Mercadona button," she expressed.
