They were the fashionable couple, no one could take their eyes off them: Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere aroused passions wherever they went. He was one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood with hits like An Officer and a Gentleman and Pretty Woman; she, one of the most successful supermodels of the moment. Not even the 17 years that separated them made anyone blink when they announced that they were getting married.

The model was only 21 years old when she met the actor in 1988, who was already 38. Three years later they made their most famous public appearance on the red carpet at the 1991 Oscars and, at the end of that same year, they gave each other the " yes, I do" in Las Vegas in an impromptu ceremony with a tinfoil ring. Now, more than three decades later, Cindy Crawford remembers those moments, and reveals what made her fall in love with the actor.

The iconic 90s model met the actor when she was practically a teenager, but at that time she was experiencing her greatest splendor, going from the catwalks to successful advertising campaigns and roles in Hollywood films. He, for his part, was Hollywood's favorite heartthrob. They met through mutual friends during a barbecue, and after several dates, she fell madly in love with her.

The model remembers those moments in the new Apple TV docuseries, The Supermodels, in which she opens up with Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington, who were successful at the time. "At first, when you're young, it's all like, 'Do you like baseball? I like baseball. Are you Tibetan Buddhist? Maybe, I'll try.' In 1995, however, the couple decided to go their separate ways. According to the press, her fame and, in addition, rumors about Gere's alleged homosexuality at that time. In 2015, the model herself wanted to clarify the real reason for her divorce: lack of time to spend time together and the age difference, which ended up taking its toll on them. "I didn't even know if we were friends," confesses the model, "I was very young and he was Richard Gere."

They both had very busy schedules and, as the model remembers, she was still 22 years old. "As a young woman, I was still trying to identify who I was and who I wanted to be," Crawford told Oprah's Master Class, "Any woman in her 20s is starting to realize who she is and feel her own power, which is complicated. in a relationship, because that person who had agreed to be there suddenly doesn't exist anymore.

The model is now married to businessman Rande Gerber, whom she married in 1998 and with whom she has two children, Presley (24) and Kaia (22), both dedicated to the world of fashion.

Richard Gere, for his part, was married for 15 years to actress Carey Lowell, with whom he had a son, Homer (23). Currently, the actor is married to the Spanish Alejandra Silva, with whom he married in 2018 and with whom he shares two children, Alexander (4) and the youngest of the family, whose name has not been revealed (3).
