Antonio Lobato reveals what were the worst moments of his life: "I had to live it from a distance"

Antonio Lobato is one of the most recognized voices in sports journalism in Spain. The veteran broadcaster has been narrating the Formula 1 world championship since 2004, going through different channels and platforms at the same time that Fernando Alonso established himself as one of the best drivers in the history of the category. However, not all have been happy moments in a life full of trips and hours on planes.

The man from Oviedo has opened up in a radio interview to the COPE network, speaking at length about the most complicated moments he has had to live on and off the asphalt. One that has stood out among Herrera's team in COPE was the mention of his sentimental partner, who was diagnosed with cancer when he was at full capacity as director, presenter and narrator of the Formula 1 broadcasts on Telecinco.

“My wife had cancer and I had to live it from a distance and it is very hard. Being in the United States and setting the alarm clock at three in the morning to call your wife before they are going to do a biopsy and that they are going to do it alone... it was tremendous. There comes a time when you see that life is slipping away from you... There are many days away from home, many moments lost with your family”, the journalist commented with Carlos Herrera.

“It consumes you a lot, it is tremendously demanding. You have to think that what I did (direct, present and narrate) was not done by anyone and it is a lot of pressure, a lot of work, a lot of discussions, a lot of trouble with the teams, with the pilots, with your company, the audiences, budgets... .”, he detailed. It was not until some time later that Lobato was able to put his personal affairs in order in order to enjoy moments with his wife, in a relationship that he maintains very discreetly.

“You return to see the people that you have abandoned. You go back to have a few beers on Friday with your friends or sit on the sofa at home to watch a series with the family, ”said the announcer. Precisely in his family the gene for automobile competition and sports journalism continues to develop. Her daughter Alba, 23, graduated in 2021 from the Carlos III University of Madrid and is already doing her first jobs at Movistar.

“Well, there is already one more journalist in the family. Congratulations. You have no idea how proud we are of you. Of course, you can be sure that the adventure has only just begun," Lobato published on the day of his daughter's graduation. With Antonio collaborating in the Formula 1 broadcasts on DAZN and Movistar, there is the possibility that both coincide in a Grand Prix in the future.
