Ainhoa Arteta remembers her near-death experience: "They gave me 3 hours to live"

On Tuesday afternoon, the Antena 3 program presented by Sonsoles Ónega, And Now Sonsoles, welcomed the singer Ainhoa Arteta to its set. The soprano is one of the most recognized and applauded artists in our country. In addition, she has been immersed in her concert tour for several months and a few days ago she took the stage at the Cartuja Center Cite theater in Seville with María Terremoto to perform several Christmas classics.

And although she is now going through an exceptional moment both professionally and personally, the truth is that the soprano faced a serious health problem two years ago, which could have cost her her life.

The artist, who has more than 40 years of experience, assured that the most complicated thing in the world of music was to support herself. ''I consider us athletes of the voice, so when you are young the muscles are fresh and allow you to do excesses. But from the age of 40, if there is no technique or support from an exercise studio, the voice begins to fail,' she declared.

Likewise, the singer assured that in addition to having experienced very complicated moments with her voice, in which she could hardly articulate a word, she also had to face a major health setback in 2021. ''I had a covid that was not the most nice, it was the covid from the beginning. But that later happened and what left me practically one minute away from dying was a kidney infection, which can complicate your life very badly,' she confessed.

The situation was so serious that even the doctors gave him only three hours to live. 'I was in a coma for almost six or seven days. But the last three hours I know that they even came to say goodbye to the hospital dressed in black because they knew that she was going to die,' the singer asserted.

''Did you say goodbye to life?'' the presenter asked. ''I did not have time. The last vision I had was with a guard, and I remember that when I heard "we have to intubate you," which for singers is super aggressive for our voice, I tried to tell him not to intubate me. And there I stayed,' she declared.

Fortunately, the soprano was able to recover, but this health setback has meant a radical change in her life. ''Before that coma I had a lot of respect and fear of silence and she was always looking to hear things. Now I only look for silence because it is very restorative. And another thing I learned is that we don't die, the body dies,' she said.
