Volkswagen Amarok V6 3.0 TDI 4Motion: beauty and good performance in pick-up format

Volkswagen debuted among pick-up vehicles in 2010 and its first generation served to position itself as one of the benchmarks in the segment. Its double cab versions and, above all, the general quality of the product, did not go unnoticed by the fans of this type of car.

After a brief absence with the cessation of marketing of the first Amarok in 2020, now is the time to enjoy the second installment of the model. A new generation that is bigger, more powerful and more athletic in its design. Its external dimensions are spectacular, with 5.35 m in length and 1.91 m in width and 1.88 m in height.

The interior draws attention for its attractive design and the quality of the finishes, factors that allow you to quickly forget that you are driving a pick-up. Equipped with the Digital Cockpit, the display of the instrumentation is optimal and the tablet-type central screen is spectacular, although some menus -for example, the air conditioning- require excessive attention to be diverted from driving.

The driving position has various regulations that allow for an optimal position behind the wheel and forward visibility is very correct. This version of the Amarok has plenty of storage spaces, including a lockable, illuminated glove box.

The equipment endowment of the Amarok Aventura includes dual-zone climate control, heated and electrically adjustable leather seats, Harma Kardon sound system with eight speakers and a practical wireless charger for smartphones. The rear seats are correct, with enough space for the legs and a backrest inclination that generates adequate comfort for long journeys.

The rear area, so characteristic of pick-ups, has dimensions of 1.61 m in length and a minimum width of 1.22 m, dimensions that make it possible to locate a europallet. The payload is 1.6 tons and there are load securing rings and an electrically operated roll-up cover that can be opened and closed by remote control, from the vehicle key.

The tested Aventura finish enhances the exterior image of the Amarok with elements such as the 21-inch alloy wheels, the longitudinal bars of the roof in silver, the housings of the exterior mirrors and the chrome door handles or the chrome applications on the grille .

The new generation of the Volkswagen pick-up offers very high levels of safety thanks to elements such as side and curtain airbags, a central airbag, front knee airbags, Front Assist braking assistant with pedestrian and cyclist detection, dynamic road light etc.

The dynamism of the Amarok is correct in any circumstance, although the logical inertia generated by the high weight of the assembly manifests itself. The driving modes allow you to enjoy adapting to each circumstance of the terrain and the braking is powerful, supported by discs on all four wheels. Its resistance to fatigue is optimal, even in highly demanding conditions.

The reduction in overhangs compared to the previous generation increases the possibilities of the Amarok in trial areas, since they provide better angles of attack and departure. In addition, the minimum ground clearance of 235 mm guarantees excellent possibilities.

The off-road performance of this vehicle is extraordinary. The 4x4 mode with reduction and lockable rear differential allows you to enjoy maximum traction capacity and the only limitations can be derived from the standard tire, designed for driving on asphalt.

As with any pick-up, this Amarok is not a suitable vehicle for getting around in big cities. It is difficult to find spaces with the necessary dimensions to park a car that measures 5.35 m in total length and its maneuverability is discreet, with a turning circle of 12.9 m.

The engine of the new Amarok is of Ford origin, a three-liter V6 diesel block, associated with a ten-speed automatic gearbox. Smooth in operation, it pushes hard from low revs thanks to the enormous availability of torque. The actual average fuel consumption is high, making it difficult to go below 10 liters per 100 km.
