For the first time in its history, the Lleida population of Sort will have a stage start in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which will be held from March 18 to 24 and corresponds to the start of one of the seven stages of the UCI World Tour race. .

The capital of the Pallars Sobirà, currently with around 2,200 inhabitants, had starred in a stage legacy in 1976 - starting in Almacelles (Lleida) - with the victory of the Belgian legend Roger de Vlaeminck, who prevailed in three stages of that edition of the Volta.

The high mountain, the glacial ponds, an exuberant nature, wild fauna and towns anchored in time are the presentation card of this Lerida region, as well as the National Park of Aigüestortes and the Estany de Sant Maurici or the Natural Park of the High Pyrenees .

"This edition of the Volta reinforces our commitment to cycle tourism, for which we received 2.3 million euros of investment from the Next Generation funds of the European Union with the Bike-Natura-Aventura Pallars Sobirà project," said the president of the Regional Council of Pallars Sobirà, Carles Isús.

"The high mountain is one of the hallmarks that most identify the Volta a Catalunya, and counting on the complicity of Pallars Sobirà will help us to enjoy stages of great sporting and scenic appeal", pointed out the president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Sports, Rubèn Peris.

The competition has the guaranteed participation of the 25 best cycling teams in the world, in addition to high-impact media dissemination that brings the images of the race on television to 190 countries and up to five continents, through 33 international broadcasters.

The best cyclists in the world will seek to take over from the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, winner of the Cycling Tour of Catalonia 2023, in a route that will start from Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona) and that will have three mountain finishes in Port Ainé (Lleida) , Vallter (Girona) and Queralt (Tarragona).
