The South Summit closed its eleventh edition this Friday, bringing together 6,500 emerging companies in Madrid, a figure very similar to that of 2019, and 2,000 investors who manage a portfolio of 300,000 million euros from 125 countries, according to data provided by the organization.

The South Summit closed its eleventh edition this Friday, bringing together 6,500 emerging companies in Madrid, a figure very similar to that of 2019, and 2,000 investors who manage a portfolio of 300,000 million euros from 125 countries, according to data provided by the organization.

The president and founder of the South Summit, María Benjumea, has thanked all the collaborators, assuring that the forum has now become a "big family". The businesswoman has thanked the regional and municipal authorities for her investment and the central government and the parliamentary arch for their willingness to approve the Startups Law to create the necessary ecosystem to create and attract talent to Spain.

The Minister of Industry, Héctor Gómez, who closed the event co-organized by IE University, spoke about entrepreneurship and that a sector in which the entrepreneur plays a fundamental role is making headway in Spain. “Years of possibilities and opportunities are opening up in Spain and in the world; Let's take advantage of it ”, he added, referring to the country's macroeconomic conditions.

Another of the protagonists of the last day of this eleventh edition has been Javier Fernández-Lasquetty, acting Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment of the Community of Madrid, who has ensured that Madrid is a focus of talent thanks to its fiscal policy, with “less taxes and more economic freedom”. The founder of Jazztel, Martín Varsavsky, participated in a round table in which he affirmed that Spain and, in particular, the capital can become the gateway for entrepreneurs from the other side of the Atlantic.

In the section of the awarded companies, the company Uelz, originally from Valencia, has won the award for the best startup. 4,500 applications have participated in the competition. Uelz is a company that helps to save technical costs of implementation and maintenance of payment platforms, by automating in seconds all the subscriptions and unique payments of the clients. Other emerging companies awarded in this edition of the South Summit have been Lumio, Mile 38 or Onego Vio, among others.
