The Consell commissions CEV and the Chamber of Commerce to carry out a study on the economy of Castellón

The Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Nuria Montes, has announced that the Generalitat, together with the Castellón Provincial Council, is going to finance the urgent implementation of a very detailed study on the Economy of Castellón. This is the Horizonte Castellón project: comprehensive strategy for the economy and productive sectors of the province of Castellón, whose cost amounts to 100,000 euros, of which each institution will assume 50%.

As Montes has clarified, “this work has the essential collaboration of the Valencian Business Confederation (CEV) and the Chamber of Commerce of Castellón, who are in charge of carrying it out, providing their own knowledge and resources.”

The purpose of this study is to have an exact x-ray of the economic situation of the province of Castellón. “It is a matter,” stated the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, “of achieving an exhaustive analysis in which the weaknesses and strengths of the productive sectors are highlighted that allow us to develop and implement the necessary strategies for the relaunch of the provincial economy.

For Nuria Montes, “we need to have a tool that helps us recover an economic capacity with high added value and that has a great impact on the employment figures of the province. We have the support of all the business associations of the different productive sectors and the rest of the social agents in the province. It must be taken into account that thanks to this study it will be possible to take measures that, in the medium, short and long term, will allow Castellón to be consolidated as one of the most sustainable territories with high economic value for the Spanish state."

Nuria Montes concluded by stating that “although we are talking about an ambitious work, the study is scheduled to be presented provisionally during the month of June and after being reviewed it will have an official and definitive presentation during the month of September. In the second presentation, data from the summer season may be included, which usually have a great impact on all economic sectors of the Valencian Community.

The study announced by the Consell is the second that will address the province's economy in detail, after the CEV announced last December the preparation of a Strategic Plan for the economic development of the province of Castellón, which will have the collaboration of the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE) and the support of the Castellón Provincial Council.
