MG4 XPower: the electric car with the sports spirit of the gasoline GTI

Since its return in 2019, the brand of British origin MG has been presenting novelties in the Spanish market with a really attractive price policy.

The MG4 Electric, a car with the same style and philosophy as the Volkswagen ID.3 or the Cupra Born, now has a very powerful and performance version. A really special electric.

In this way, the newcomer MG4 XPower incorporates two electric motors, one located on each axis, which develop 435 HP of power and 600 Nm of torque together.

It offers acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and efficient and sporty behavior thanks to the improvements made to the chassis.

Thus, MG pulls out of its sleeve a 100% electric GTI, with a lot of character, with 0 emissions and a really affordable price: 42,190 euros, which remain at 31,980 euros thanks to the MOVES III Plan and discounts for financing the brand .

At MG they are convinced of having created an icon, a cult car from its very launch due to its combination of character, design and performance. This model recalls the sporting spirit of the brand's historic cars, such as the MGB or the Metro Rallye 6R4.

Perhaps, as Volkswagen did in its day with the Golf GTI, MG can take credit for inventing a new category; the first GTI of the new era of electric mobility.

In any case, this is a compact with high performance, sporty behavior and zero emissions, which goes far beyond the GTI of yesteryear thanks to its electric power and complete equipment.

To adapt it to its performance and ensure safe behavior, MG has carried out exhaustive development work on this electric compact.

Part of the intelligent platform MSP (Modular Scalable Platform), with high torsional rigidity, a low center of gravity and a 50/50 weight distribution between axles to achieve the best balance, efficiency and driving pleasure.

The suspensions are 25% stiffer than those of the MG4 and aluminum front wishbones have been fitted. The steering has also been evolved to make it more precise and sensitive, offering an even sportier driving experience.

To ensure powerful and stable braking, it mounts four large ventilated discs (345 mm in diameter at the front and 340 mm at the rear), with oversized Sport Orange calipers with the XPower logo on an orange background. All combined with the “by wire” braking system.

On the other hand, the four-wheel drive has been optimized to improve performance while maintaining efficiency. The XDS electronic differential lock constantly manages torque to all four wheels independently, getting maximum traction from each tyre.

To facilitate cornering, the XDS system can speed up the outside wheels and/or brake the inside wheels to ensure stability and performance.

The MG4 XPower battery has 64 kWh and can be recharged to a maximum of 140 kW to go from 10 to 80% in 26 minutes. With a combined consumption (WLTP) of 18.7 kWh/100 km, the MG4 XPower allows an approved autonomy of 385 kilometers.

The driver has different driving modes and new functions exclusive to this model. In Eco mode, it works only in rear-wheel drive. In Normal mode, it optimizes power consumption by activating the front motor only when conditions demand it. Finally, in Sport or Snow mode, both motors are activated.

It also has two exclusive functions. On the one hand, Track Mode allows the driver to time their laps on the 10.1-inch infotainment screen, and compare their telemetry lap by lap, as well as monitor elements such as G forces or cornering.

On the other hand, the Launch Control function allows you to make the most of the vehicle's performance to obtain lightning-fast acceleration.

The MG4 XPower differs from the rest of the MG4 range by incorporating details that highlight its sporty character, such as the Hunter Green exterior color that nods to the classic hue of British sports cars.

The 18-inch two-tone XPower five-spoke wheels, the black lacquered side skirts, the silver inserts on the front spoiler, the new rear diffuser and the side protection for the rear doors complete a package that exudes exclusivity and sportiness.

Inside there is a new leatherette and Alcantara upholstery and aluminum pedals further accentuate its character.

The sportiest version of the range maintains the spaciousness, the good presence and a modern design of the interior, with instrument panels and light control elements, made of quality materials. And it is equipped with the complete package of MG Pilot driving assistance systems.

MG is present in 26 European countries and has ambitious plans for Europe with 10 models in its range by 2025. The brand has belonged to the Chinese automobile group SAIC Motor (based in Shanghai) since 2007 and is developing an interesting strategy for electrified vehicles and modern design.
