The king; the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez; the head of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, will participate in the 38th edition of the annual meeting of the Cercle d'Economia, which will start on May 29, the day after the elections municipal and regional. The president of the Cercle, Jaume Guardiola, and the general director of the entity, Miquel Nadal, yesterday presented the agenda for the conference, in which they highlighted that the number of politicians has been reduced.
On Tuesday, May 30, the King will preside over the Cercle d'Economia award ceremony for European Construction, which this year will go to the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski. With this award, the Cercle seeks to recognize the "solidarity attitude" of the Polish capital and the citizens of the country for the reception of refugees from Ukraine, Guardiola said. Also that day, tributes will be made to two deceased former presidents of the Cercle. To the ex-minister Josep Piqué and to Vicenç Oller, first Minister of Industry of the Generalitat.
As usual, President Sánchez will close the Cercle conference at noon on the 31st, while Feijóo, the PP leader, will come that same day in the morning, although they are not expected to coincide in the conference.
As for the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, he will participate in the meeting on Tuesday 30 May in the late afternoon, shortly after the intervention of the Minister of Inclusion, José Luis Escrivà. The Minister of Economy, Natàlia Mas, will also participate.
In this edition, the celebration of the municipal and regional elections on May 28 has made it necessary to introduce modifications to the usual agenda for the event, which used to be opened by the President of the Generalitat. We also miss the participation of the Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño, who will not be present due to scheduling problems.
Guardiola assured that the objective of this edition is for there to be more dialogue between the partners and the speakers, especially the politicians. The objective was to avoid what happened in recent editions, when some politicians limited themselves to giving a speech or a conference without questions.
The Cercle has structured the conferences focused on geopolitics and the economy. The agenda for Monday, May 29 – in which there will be no politicians, except for the high representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell – will focus on the war in Ukraine and will include the presence of the European thinker Ivan Krastev and the Chatham House analyst Yu Jie.
