Coera Brand, the first sustainable men's fashion brand to use bio-based leather

The fashion industry has a high impact on the environment. The massive production of textiles, the intensive use of natural resources, water pollution and the generation of waste are aspects that impact the planet. Faced with this situation, more and more companies are becoming aware of the type of materials used, production processes, the geographical location of manufacturing facilities and waste management.

One of the companies that have adopted this ecological awareness is Coera Brand. This brand, promoted by a startup based in the Reimagine Textile incubator at TecnoCampus, has launched a sustainable men's fashion collection that uses vegan leather. With the use of bio-based and recycled materials, added to the commitment to work exclusively with national suppliers and manufacturers, they seek to manufacture more sustainable garments that reduce the use of fossil materials and minimize carbon emissions.

Coera Brand was born in 2020 with the aim of becoming an agent of change in the leather industry, creating innovative products and promoting values that drive towards a more conscious future. In these two years they have redirected their initial idea to the current Coera Brand project, with which they have won the sustainability award at the Reimagine Textile.

In the words of Víctor Melero, CEO of Coera Brand, this brand is aimed “at men who feel comfortable with tradition, but at the same time, look for items produced in a more conscious, responsible and innovative way.” “Sometimes, men “The materials used are not environmentally friendly,” explains Melero, to highlight the innovation of his brand.

Coera Brand offers men's footwear and accessories that are an alternative to traditional leather, since they use bio-based materials from the food industry. In this way, the life cycle of this waste is extended, since it is recycled instead of being incinerated, to obtain a versatile, high-performance material that is 100% free of animal cruelty.

For this reason, the pieces of this brand are a sustainable alternative for leather lovers, since the impact of the production and dyeing process of traditional leather is reduced. The brand is committed to a more ethical and responsible vision, which also helps strengthen the national textile industry.

The “Neo-leather revolution”, as Coera Brand defines it, has begun with a first collection of footwear and accessories for a modern and elegant man, who does not want to give up the aesthetics and durability of traditional leather, but wants to acquire more ecological, respectful and local items. According to Melero, so far these new sustainable materials have been used for other types of items, such as sneakers, but not in more traditional footwear and accessories.

The brand redefines contemporary men's classics using the most innovative materials on the market and producing as locally as possible. In this way they seek a timeless style, which is also more durable, with high ethical standards.

Coera Brand's next goal is to “become not dependent on plastic.” At the moment, organic waste mixed with recycled plastic is used to make the leather to provide the leather-like finish. Until now, as an alternative to leather, only imitation leather items could be found on the market, which is made from 100% plastic. Coera Brand is based on 60% recycled materials.

Coera Brand's first collection was launched in November. At the moment, Coera Brand is sold online.
