The former professional cyclist Alejandro Valverde has lowered in seven minutes the record invested in completing the route of the Quebrantahuesos cycling tour, a non-competitive test with start and finish in Sabiñánigo (Huesca), by using a time of 5.14:32 to cover the 198 kilometers that They run through the Alto Gállego and Jacetania regions and enter France with four mountain passes.
The second rider to complete the itinerary was Edgar Esteban and the third was Dario Gadeo, who started seven minutes later than Valverde.
In the Treparriscos march, of 85 kilometres, Julen Uranga has entered the first solo, investing a time of 2.24:14, and the second has been Daniel López, who has entered just over a minute. The third to complete the route has been Andoni Egiguren.
The first woman to complete it was Pilar Arnal from Zaragoza, followed by Maite Uranga and Leti Soria.
The XXXII edition of the Quebrantahuesos, a test organized by the Edelweis Cycling Club, has had the participation of 9,000 cyclists, to which are added the more than 2,000 in the Treparriscos, tests with well-known participants from the world of cycling, such as Miguel Indurain , Samu Sánchez, Aimar Zubeldia, or the tennis player David Ferrer, among others.
After Valverde's "victory", some users of social networks have questioned the philosophy of this type of test. They allege that the cycling tours are non-competitive events, where you should not go to dispute any position in the final classification.
The creator of the Bearded Vulture, Luís García Landa, has spoken and has shown his personal opinion. And yes, bringing together one of the best cyclists in history with several thousand cyclists in the same event is something unique and that must be valued.
Surely, in no other sport of such relevance something like this happens. When professionals are inaccessible, we lament their coldness and remoteness, but when we share space with them, we complain about their presence. Something to ponder.
