Youth and Children removes a campaign from networks and apologizes for having used AI

Pressure from social media users has led the Ministry of Youth and Children of the Government of Spain to eliminate a campaign carried out for social networks in which the International Day of Women and Girls in Science was celebrated with images generated with artificial intelligence (AI).

"We have removed the images published today by the

The images included several Disney princesses—such as Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Ariel (The Little Mermaid), and Snow White—carrying out science-related tasks. "She was not a princess," reads each of the images, "she was a marine biologist"—in the case of Ariel—, "she was a veterinarian"—Bella— or "food technologist"—Snow White—.

Twitter users have been quick to criticize the ministry's decision to use images generated by AI without taking into account the work of female designers. At the same time, they pointed out the classic visual errors that are generated in many creations of artificial intelligence: a stethoscope with a double end that is embedded in Belle's brain, a microscope with floating elements for Snow White or Ariel's tail with impossible endings.

"The Ministry of Youth and Children has decided to celebrate the day of women and girls in science and advertise it with posters generated by AI. Let's hope that at least for Women's Day they have the work of women," criticizes a user . "It would be good if the Ministry paid young artists and not used AI," said another.
