Vitor Roque, energy and variants for the attack

The 38 minutes played by Vitor Roque have already given some clues about the Brazilian. Others have not yet been seen. At 18 years old and with no previous time in Europe, he is not a finished footballer, but he is an interesting player from a tactical level.

The first thing to highlight is that he is a forward who always looks towards the goal. He is not big in size (1.74 m), but he is strong in the lower body of him. He scored 14 goals in the three competitions with Paranaense and scored 12 in a team that recorded a total of 60 goals in the Brasileirao. So it is just as true that the three missed chances that he has had in the two games as a Blaugrana have been very clear that the Brazilian defines much better than what he has shown so far.

A very marked characteristic of it is verticality. His first option when the team is in the construction zone is always the breakaway. He reads spaces well and has timing. It is no coincidence that, in a match in which Barça broke the record for offsides (14 in Las Palmas), he did not take part in any. Not even that the three clear occasions mentioned have come just in unmarking into space. He is tireless in offering solutions and clarifying the situation for his colleagues.

Also highlight his generous breaking movements. Those in which there is little chance of receiving, but that clear spaces. And that is very important for this Barça because it extends the distance between the defense and the rival midfield (more facilities for the playmakers to receive) and because this Barça goes very little into space.

Another valuable point about Vitor Roque is that he is a great pressurer. His electricity allows him to reduce spaces quickly and recover high. Furthermore, he is a very good duel winner for a striker. Firstly, because he does not shy away from any dispute, and secondly, because he goes all out. He won 47% of the duels he had in the Brasileirao (a very high percentage for an attacker his age). For example, Lewandowski has an average of 45%, or Ferran Torres, 39%.

But as noted at the beginning, it has several things to improve. One of them is the management of playing times. Because he always plays at maximum speed and today's football requires actions in which it is necessary to lower the revolutions. Something that is reflected in his passing rate (74% reliability) and, above all, in his dribbling percentage in the Brazilian championship. And only 40% of his dribbles are productive. Or the matching game. Nobody expects the typical Brazilian footballer with high quality dribbling or dazzling actions. He is not an associative player. A point that, in the Barça context, will have to improve.

As for the fit, the best fit for him is as a pure center forward, exactly where he played all 12 minutes against Las Palmas. He has all his movements with and without the ball mechanized. The limitation for this is that he leaves Lewandowski out of the team. Given that, a possibility that would add Vitor Roque's scoring ability to that of the Pole is to play on the wing, a position he occupied in Barbastro. It is not his ideal, but he is adaptable in a very specific role: that of attacking the space towards the area and not of unbalancing on the wing. Of course, in this option, the left is better than the right. Another variant would be to put him as a forward in a double striker system. In this case, the one that best suits Barça is the 3-2-3-2. A system that Xavi already used with Ansu Fati and Lewandowski in emergency situations on the scoreboard and that could be interesting.
