Viladecans collects more than 1,000 kilos of bitter oranges to make jam

This weekend, more than 60 students and residents of the Sales de Viladecans neighborhood collected more than 1,000 kilos of bitter oranges from the local trees with the aim of making jam. As explained by the City Council this Monday through a statement, it is the first initiative of its kind to be carried out in this Baix Llobregat municipality and is part of the city's climate pact.

The objective of the proposal is to "avoid food waste" and has had the support of the Espigoladors foundation, with experience in this practice. The neighborhood's neighborhood association, the institute and the Casal Barri de Sales have also participated. The initiative is reminiscent of the one carried out in the Pati dels Tarongers of the Palau de la Generalitat.

The foundation, through a job placement company, will be in charge of transforming the bitter oranges into jam, although the neighbors themselves already carried out a demonstration over the weekend.

The next actions of the Viladecans climate pact are planned for the months of June and July. It will consist of "promoting seasonal products from the Viladecans countryside, such as zucchini and tomatoes," the City Council reported.
