València and Alicante will reinforce inspections in leisure venues after the tragedy in Murcia

"After what has happened in Murcia, the City Council must make an effort to reinforce municipal services so that a tragedy like this does not happen again," says the mayor of València, María José Catalá. That is why this week the The council has activated a specific plan to reinforce the inspection of all entertainment venues and leisure venues, which also includes tourist apartments and which it announced this morning during its attendance at the opening of the 16th Plenary Session of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) held at Feria València.

The plan will consist of the creation of a working group between the Local Police and the municipal Activities service, which has already met this week, which will have biweekly meetings to schedule and plan the new inspections pending in the city.

The mayor assures that we must "improve coordination between the Local Police and the Activities service." The council has assured that currently "all termination orders have been executed on their own terms."

The inspection schedule will be made biweekly, said Català, who also added that these inspections will also be carried out on the tourist apartments. This summer the mayor already explained that the council would carry out an inspection plan on the illegal apartments in the city, which it estimated at 4,000.

The Alicante City Council will also review the licenses of all the city's nightclubs to give "peace of mind" to users, after the fire that started last Sunday in the Atalayas leisure area, in Murcia. The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, pointed out today that "it doesn't hurt to review" all the clubs in the city, when asked by the media in the same FVMP forum.

The first mayor of Alicante has been "dismayed by the tragedy in Murcia" and has announced that the council will review that all the nightclubs have a license and that "everything is in order and there is no file pending resolution."

"Whenever these misfortunes happen, they are a wake-up call and, although the City Council inspection periodically carries out these types of reviews, the Alicante hospitality sector itself has made itself available to ensure peace of mind for users, who It is our responsibility," Barcala stressed.

Following the announcements by the Alicante and Valencian councils, the Federation of Leisure, Tourism, Gaming, Recreational Activities and Related Industries of the Valencian Community (FOTUR) values the sector and defends that "leisure venues in the Valencian community do not have Nothing to hide". The statements of Juanjo Carbonell, general secretary of FOTUR, insist that the Valencian leisure industry is "the safest in Europe", although he believes that "it is regrettable that they take these measures now because an accident has occurred."

Carbonell points out that "leisure venues in the Valencian Community always have their doors open to inspection services" and adds that "what has unfortunately happened in Murcia does not represent the sector or the security of the venues at all." He states that "we will refer to the nullity of incidents" registered by the Autonomous Police, in charge of these supervisions.
