Vallcarca joins the Puig Antich struggle with a mural

The artist Roc Blackblock pays homage to the figure of the young anarchist in the Vallcarca neighborhood with a large mural on Farigola Street. The work will be officially inaugurated this weekend with several activities around it. In the representation, value is given to the anti-capitalist struggle and the anarchist movement through the figure of Salvador Puig Antich, one of the last executed by the Franco regime with the vile garrote at the age of 25.

The location of the mural has not been selected at random. The author understands the place as a sensitive and coherent space to carry out the intervention, not because of the fact that some important episode in the life of Salvador Puig Antich has been experienced or because of the actions of the Iberian Liberal Movement (MIL), but rather so it represents the place, where community and libertarian organizations are very strong. The Vallcarca neighborhood, in the Gràcia district, "is a place that stands up to the neoliberal and capitalist trend of the Barcelona brand," maintains the artist.

The mural, measuring approximately ten meters, was carried out in two phases over four days. During the first day, the imperfections of the wall were eliminated, giving it a base of plastic paint to flatten the area and then paint the portrait.

The author, who works through historical images, recognizes that: “As there are not many images of Salvador Puig Antich, it seemed especially interesting to me to reproduce this image, iconic and identifiable.” Roc Blackblock, painter of the mural, expresses that the objective at a conceptual level is to bring the memory of the neighborhoods and the city to the public space for later dissemination, acts that help new generations understand and know the struggle that took place. and the importance that this figure and his memory obtained over time.

The phrase that accompanies the image "Digue'ls que continuïn lluitant" refers to the essence of Salvador Puig Antich, who considered himself a free soul. The image, the phrase and the elements that accompany it vindicate this fight.
