This morning, a group of farmers tried to block access to the Mercadona logistics center in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, in Barcelona, with tractors. Convened by Unió de Pagesos, they have protested against large distribution for what they consider "an abuse in the food chain." The union has been mobilizing for weeks to achieve a reform of the food chain law that allows farmers and ranchers to improve their living conditions.
The farmers first cut off the C-243B road and subsequently positioned themselves in front of the logistics platform, as reported by TV3. Mercadona sources point out that the company has managed to operate without problems. The mobilizations began early in the morning and are expected to continue for the rest of the day.
Unió de Pagesos hopes that these continuous mobilizations will have their effect in the Congress of Deputies to achieve legislative modifications to improve prices that they currently consider "ruinous." In this sense, the union accuses large retailers of "unfair practices" with the primary sector.
