Ukraine celebrates its biggest literary festival

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has shown his support for the Lviv Bookforum literary festival, which this year has partnered with the Hay Festival to continue to be held, partly virtually and partly on various stages in the United Kingdom.

In a personal letter, Zelenskiy highlighted the meeting as a platform to show the world the atrocities suffered by Ukraine and its culture, and the importance of this meeting to defend democracy.

Zelenski joins public figures of culture, such as the writers Margaret Atwood or Neil Gaiman who, in addition to expressing their support, participate in the festival along with other names such as the Nobel Prize winner for literature Abdulrazak Gurnah, or the anthropologist Yuval Noah Harari. In total, there are 40 authors gathered in 15 conversations that cover topics such as art in times of conflict, memory, gender equality, mourning, corruption, imperialism and hope.

The festival opened yesterday and will close on Sunday. It is transmitted in streaming, free of charge, in Spanish and English for the whole world.
