Two dead in a boat rescued with 40 people in the south of Gran Canaria

Maritime Rescue has rescued a boat with 40 people on board, two of them deceased, when they were about 140 kilometers south of the island of Gran Canaria, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center of 112 of the Canary Islands and the entity institutional.

Two dead in a boat rescued with 40 people in the south of Gran Canaria

Maritime Rescue has rescued a boat with 40 people on board, two of them deceased, when they were about 140 kilometers south of the island of Gran Canaria, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center of 112 of the Canary Islands and the entity institutional.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center received a call from the merchant ship 'MV-KEN GYANT' around 8:07 p.m. on Monday, reporting the sighting of a boat that was about 76 miles south of Gran Canaria.

Subsequently, from said center a device was activated with two helicopters - Helimer 201 and Helimer 206 - and the Caliope rescue boat, Helimer 201 rescuing a person, who was evacuated to the Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín Hospital, where he landed 03:35 a.m. this Tuesday.

Likewise, Helimer 206 evacuated three other people, who were also transferred to the Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín Hospital, where they landed at 05:15 hours. The Caliope rescue boat rescued 34 people—seven women and 27 men—as well as two deceased men who were taken to the Arguineguín dock, in Mogán, where they docked at 6:30 a.m.

A large health device made up of personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), Red Cross and Primary Care has been deployed at the Arguineguín dock to assist migrants.
