Two arrested for nine burglaries at homes in Baix Penedès

The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested two men on June 15 in Roda de Berà (Tarragonès) as alleged perpetrators of nine crimes of robbery with force. The detainees are 29 and 50 years old.

The case began four months ago as a result of a series of robberies at homes in coastal towns in Baix Penedès. The investigation revealed that the nine facts had as a common denominator that most of the victims were of Ukrainian origin and Eastern countries, and that they kept large amounts of cash and valuables in their homes.

As explained by the police force, those arrested used drones to monitor the houses where they were interested in entering to steal.

Likewise, Mossos d'Esquadra has detailed that the detainees used the same modus operandi to choose the victims: they moved to the parking lots of large commercial surfaces in the area and watched the parked vehicles. Once they detected a car with an eastern license plate, they followed it until they located its original address.

When they had found a potential victim, the detainees began surveillance, for several weeks, with the aim of obtaining information about the daily routines of the residents. During these surveillances, the detainees also used drones to find out possible access to the properties and to find out if the inhabitants had dogs on the farms.

However, on June 15, the Mossos d'Esquadra carried out an entry and investigation at the residence of those investigated in Roda de Berà, where they proceeded to arrest them. At the entrance and registry, several valuables and jewelry were found pending their origin, according to the body.

The detainees went to court before the acting court of El Vendrell on June 17. The investigation is still open and the Mossos d'Esquadra do not rule out further arrests.
