Trànsit foresees a "complicated" return operation in Catalonia and asks to leave during off-peak hours

The director of the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), Ramon Lamiel, has said that he expects this Sunday a "complicated" return operation on the roads of Catalonia after the December long weekend, for which he has recommended leaving during off-peak hours to avoid traffic jams. .

Traffic expects some 250,000 vehicles to return to the metropolitan area of Barcelona between 12 noon and midnight, explained Lamiel in an interview with Catalunya Ràdio picked up by Europa Press.

It also foresees that the main retentions will be recorded on the C-16 and C-17, as well as on the AP-7 - in the latter, especially in the north -, since they are the three roads that "have presented problems" in the exit operation.

He explained that on Saturday they already warned of "a certain return of vehicles" on Catalan roads, although he insisted that the return operation this Sunday will be complicated, with a peak in queues at 6 p.m.

For this reason, Lamiel has recommended leaving during off-peak hours and "scheduling the trip" by checking the state of the roads beforehand.

Asked about the decision of the EU Transport Ministers to endorse the initiative to allow 17-year-olds to drive, he responded that "it is not an important need expressed by society."
