Three women accuse filmmaker Carlos Vermut of sexual violence

Three women accuse Madrid filmmaker Carlos Vermut of sexual violence. He is the director of films such as Mantícora or Magical Girl, which in 2014 won the Concha de Oro at the San Sebastián festival. According to what El País explains today, the victims would be a film student, an employee of his productions and a worker in the cultural sector.

All of them claim in the newspaper that Vermut took advantage of his position and recognition to have violent sexual relations with them without any type of consent.

The events took place between May 2014 and February 2022. One of the victims, the cultural sector worker, explains that Vermut immobilized her, tried to drown her and forced her to have sex with him, although the girl I was trying to kick him out. On the other hand, the film student explains that the director got on top of her and even ripped off her bra without any type of consent.

And in the case of the employee of his productions, the woman explains that he kept her locked up at home for an entire day and they had relations with non-consensual violence. Furthermore, she claims that Vermut had promised her a better job, although in recent years she had been mistreating him at work.

In statements in the same newspaper, Vermut has come forward to these accusations: he says that "he is not aware of having exercised sexual violence against any woman" and that he has never had any need to attack anyone. And he says he suspects that the three alleged victims felt bad when they got home, and that's why they have now raised their voices against him.

Be that as it may, none of the young women reported the case for fear of losing their job. However, according to the newspaper, at least 17 people in the world of Spanish cinema knew about the case of one of the victims.
