Three girls are removed from parents in Cártama who lived among garbage and were neglected

Three girls aged 13, 6 and 5 who lived in a house in Cártama where their parents had stored a large amount of belongings and waste collected in the rubbish bins have been turned over to the Malaga Child Protection Service.

The unit of the National Police Corps attached to the autonomous community has withdrawn the girls for an alleged crime against the rights and family duties (abandonment of minors) of their parents, who could suffer from Diogenes syndrome, as reported by the Ministry of the Presidency in a statement.

The Attached Police learned on March 6 from the Social Services of the Cártama City Council of the existence of a family with whom they had worked to "try to correct the existing dysfunctional dynamics."

In the family there were continuous arguments and confrontations between the adults, communication limitations, probable mental problems of the mother and neglect of her daughters.

In addition, the family home had suffered a fire the previous day, for which reason an investigation was launched in which it was verified that a large amount of household belongings, garbage and household waste collected in the waste containers had been stored in the home.

The house was in "a lamentable state that made it uninhabitable and unhealthy for its occupants."

The agents collected sufficient data to determine that the minors spent a large part of the day locked in their home, without contact with other children their age and socially isolated, and that they were neglected by their parents.

When it was ruled that the sisters were in a situation of serious risk, the police withdrew the minors, who were placed at the disposal of the Malaga Minor Protection Service.

The police report was forwarded to the acting Court of Instruction of the Guardia de Málaga, at whose disposal were the parents of the minors, investigated for an alleged crime against family rights and duties.
