This is how the characters of 'Tell me how it happened' have changed after 22 years on screen

The time has come to say goodbye to Antonio, Merche, Toni, Inés, Carlos, María and the beloved grandmother from Spain, Herminia. Tell me how it happened says goodbye to the television schedule this Wednesday after 23 seasons and 413 episodes. In recent years, viewers of the series created by Miguel Ángel Bernardeau have been able to explore the history of Spain from 1968 to 2001, which was precisely the year in which the fiction began to be broadcast for a perfect script twist.

In these 22 years on the air there have been many plots that the characters have experienced and the actors who played the members of the Alcántara family have also changed a lot. This Wednesday's episode closes a legendary series for Spanish television whose characters and actors who played them will be remembered as family members they have seen grow up through the screen.

Antonio Alcántara will be remembered as one of the most recognized roles of actor Imanol Arias, who was already known before the series began but with it he managed to consolidate himself for many years in a top-rated serial. The years have passed for Imanol almost the same as for Antonio, his gray hair and diminished demeanor attest to this. In another nod to the passage of time, his legendary mustache has given way to a casual beard.

The character of Ana Duato, for all Merche, has been one of those who has experienced the most changes during fiction, since not only has she gone through all the typical hairstyles and haircuts of the seventies, eighties and nineties, but she lived , among many other things, the economic emancipation of women. Always looking out for her children, Merche has been forging her own path over the years.

Far from that skinny teenager lost in life although full of ideals, Toni Alcántara's character has become an adult established in his professional career with politics always on his mind. In real life, Pablo Rivero has also established himself in his profession as an actor and is also a novelist and already has more than five successful titles in his bibliography.

Irene Visedo has given life to Inés, the eldest daughter of the Alcántara family in most of the episodes of the series, although for some seasons Pilar Punzano was in charge of interpreting this member of the Alcántara family. The only daughter of the couple without studies and with a non-conformist attitude became an actress, she moved to Ibiza, developed drug addiction, got out of the hole and dreams of becoming a director. The series began and says goodbye with Inés herself.

The role of María has also been played by several actresses, being the character that has been assumed by the most interpreters in the series. In order they have been Esmeralda García, Celine Peña, Paula Gallego, Carmen Climent and Silvia Abascal, the latter during the plots set in 2020. The number of actresses is due to the need to make a jump in the character's age.

The most significant and striking change in Tell Me How It Happened is surely that of little Carlos, played by Ricardo Gómez. He started the series when he was 7 years old and will turn 30 next February, so his evolution during the series has been constant. In 2018 it was announced that the actor was leaving the series by his own decision at the end of season 19 and returned in season 23 to say goodbye to the public.
