They coerced a disabled mother and son for 20 years to keep their pension

Agents of the National Police in Alicante have arrested five people for allegedly threatening, assaulting, imprisoning for several days, harassing and robbing a family member with 71% intellectual disability for five years, with the aim of disposing of his pension.

Those arrested had already been detained for allegedly doing the same with the victim's mother for 20 years and formed a "criminal network", as explained by the National Police in a statement.

In January of this year, Group I of Organized Crime of the National Police Station in Alicante arrested some of those involved in this plot for allegedly harassing, assaulting and threatening a woman with 65% intellectual disability for 20 years to be able to keep the pension that she was collecting. The detainees justified their actions as the collection of an old usurious debt that reached a million and a half pesetas.

Now, the agents have learned that the alleged perpetrators of the acts against the disabled woman also carried out this type of behavior against her son, who had 71% intellectual disability.

At the beginning of June, the man with a high degree of intellectual disability plucked up his courage and decided to report his situation to the agents of the Organized Crime Group of the Alicante Provincial Police Station.

The victim narrated the constant harassment and threats that he had been suffering for at least five years and that included coercing him to open a checking account where one of his attackers was listed as authorized and thus be able to freely dispose of the social pension of just over 400 euros. monthly that the victim had been receiving due to her situation.

Apparently, this coercion was carried out after forcing him violently to get into a vehicle and appear with the attackers at the bank to make sure that he complied with their demands. In addition, the victim was physically and psychologically assaulted with threats such as "if you don't do what we tell you, we are going to hit and kill you."

The victim told the investigators that the attacks and coercion intensified when he was summoned in court to testify about what happened against his mother months before. The man told the policemen that they forced him to remain locked up for the two days prior to the appearance, under threats such as: "If you do not do what we have told you, I will send him to you and he will beat you up."

During this confinement, the victim was apparently unable to escape because he was always being watched by one of the alleged perpetrators, nor was he able to ask for help since his mobile phone had been taken away.

In addition, they had in their possession both the National Identity Document and the victim's credit card and bank book, which they used to get the financial pension that they received monthly.

The agents of Crime Group I of the National Police in Alicante, after a "laborious" investigation and corroborating everything denounced by the victim, arrested the five allegedly involved in the events.

These are four men and one woman of Spanish nationality, between the ages of 21 and 55, and some direct relatives of the victim, who are facing the crimes of illegal detention, threats, robbery with violence and intimidation, and obstruction of justice. . The detainees were placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court on duty in Alicante.
