The Civil Guard of Valencia, within the framework of operation 'Lumoa', has arrested two people - a man and a woman - and is investigating two more for allegedly robbing elderly people after asking them for money for an supposedly sick daughter, according to reports. The Armed Institute reported in a statement.
The 'modus operandi' of the detainees consisted of the theft by the arrested woman of money, mobile phones and bank cards from elderly people after entering their homes after deceiving them or abusing their trust.
He used the pretext of needing urgent money for a supposedly sick daughter, thus obtaining financial payments from an elderly person. In addition, he stole personal effects, jewelry and a bank card from which he withdrew up to 4,000 euros, leaving just two euros in the victim's account.
Once the bank cards were stolen, they were used in public establishments or, alternatively, those arrested withdrew money from the banks.
As a result of the agents' investigative work, they determined the participation of other people. Some deposited part of the stolen money into a bank account owned by them and another, in collusion with the detainees, allowed the use of the stolen cards in their establishment in exchange for a sum of money as a commission.
Finally, a woman and a man aged 27 and 44 and of Spanish nationality have been arrested. In addition, two men aged 30 and 39, of Spanish and Chinese nationality, have been investigated. He is accused of four crimes of theft, three of fraud, robbery, burglary and usurpation of property. Ten crimes have been clarified.
The proceedings have been delivered to the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 3 of Requena.
