"There is a crazy man who wants to set fire to Saler," says the mayor of València

"This issue is not so much an isolated incident, a fire that can be caused in many ways, but rather we are clear that there is a person behind it who is causing these fires," María José Catalá stated bluntly this morning in relation to the successive incidents. occurred in the Devesa del Saler in recent days that have forced the firefighters to act repeatedly.

The mayor of València has appealed to the responsibility of political groups and the media: "There is no type of negligence here, here is a crazy person - allow me this expression - who wants to set fire to the Saler." For this reason, Catalá believes that we must support the actions of the Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Local Police: "of course, we are not going to stop until we find a solution to this problem."

The mayor made these statements before the meeting she planned to hold with representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community. "We are working to surround this person, who unfortunately has a goal, but he is not going to achieve it."

Meanwhile, he added, the City Council is working to ensure that in the area there are no areas susceptible to being burned and that the fire spreads quickly due to lack of cleaning or maintenance.

The municipal group of Compromís has announced in this regard that it will present an urgent motion in the plenary session of the Valencia City Council this Tuesday to demand strengthening the protection of the Devesa-Albufera against successive fires.

The coalition shows its concern about the "ultra profile" of the new councilor of Devesa-Albufera, José Gosálbez, appointed last week by the mayor, Mª José Catalá, after the entry of Vox into the municipal government.

"It is very curious that the only councilor suspected of having, in some way, a connection with the fires that have occurred in Devesa-Albufera has been named responsible" for this area. "He makes our hair stand on end," said Compromís spokesperson, Papi Robles, in reference to the video that Gosálbez shared in September of last year about the start of a fire in El Saler.

Robles has shown his concern about the situation of the natural park, has highlighted the work of the firefighting forces and has criticized that the mayor "rewards the uncivil behavior" of Gosálbez by appointing him as a councilor. "We don't know if they want to have a new Mar Menor that will end faster in the hands of the flames," she stated.
