Next year, the University of Girona (UdG) will offer a new interdisciplinary degree entirely in English with the aim of training students with a critical outlook who understand an "increasingly globalized" world and take "actions to change it."

The new degree is titled Global Studies and is the first that the UdG – and not an affiliated center – will teach in English.

The training will be "transversal" and will be aimed at diverse professions ranging from advisors and analysts to international organizations. Apart from this degree, the Euses affiliated center will have one in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

This Wednesday, the UdG presented the new degrees and double degrees that it will offer starting in the 2024/2025 academic year and which are added to the 55 that the university and its affiliated centers currently offer.

They are those that will be offered to the 4,000 registered students from 61 institutes who will visit the different university campuses during the open day. "There are more and more students who want to study here," said the rector of the UdG, Quim Salvi.

The Global Studies degree will have 60 places and will offer students the possibility of taking a double degree: Global Studies and Tourism.

The dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Joaquim Majó, says that they had been working on this project for some time, which reinforces the "international" vocation of the university.

"He wants young people to face the world in a different way and cause changes," he says. Among the disciplines that will be taught, there will be linked to law, history, communication or tourism, among others.

One of its coordinators, Anaïs Varo, details that professional opportunities range from analysts and advisors to professionals who work in international organizations or the third sector. "In an increasingly changing world of work, it is important that these more flexible profiles exist," she says.

The degree will have several modules - the first of them focused on "understanding the world" - where "real" problems and future proposals will be addressed. It will also include an international stay in the third year and the study of a second or third language, beyond English.

On the other hand, Euses will also teach a course on Human Nutrition and Dietetics starting in September with 40 places. The University will also offer new double degrees: Global Studies and Tourism and Catalan and Hispanic Philology.
