The tranquil landscape of Alta Anoia

I captured these photographs for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia along the path of Sant Pere de Sallavinera and Aguilar de Segarra. The tranquil landscape of Alta Anoia can be appreciated, with Montserrat and the windmills in the background.

The natural region of Alta Anoia or Alta Segarra is delimited by a plateau and located in the extreme north-west of the region of Anoia, which embraces the neighboring area of Bages and part of the south of Solsonès.

Alta Anoia is like a hidden natural treasure, which can be enjoyed without the crowds of tourists that exist in other places in Catalonia.

Sant Pere de Sallavinera is located on the border of Anoia with Bages and Solsonès. It is a small locality whose economy is diversified between rainfed agriculture, cattle breeding, poultry farming, mining and mineral water packaging.

Among its places of interest, we find the church of Sant Pere de Sallavinera, a Romanesque-style building that dates back to the year 1089, but whose current appearance is the result of renovations that took place in the 19th century.

The Castle of Boixadors is a documented fortification already in 1014 that was used as a privileged position from which to control the access roads to the Calaf plateau and the eastern side. We can also visit the church of Sant Pere de Boixadors, in Romanesque style and dating from the 19th century. Next to it, there is a small cemetery.

As for Aguilar de Segarra, its landscape is rugged and mountainous, crisscrossed by mountain ranges of different heights with splendid panoramic views. To the north the Castelltallat mountain range closes the municipality; at midday, the Soler, Maçana and Grevalosa mountain ranges; and inside the municipality rises the Còdol-rodon mountain range, with heights that, within the municipal area, do not exceed 700 meters.
