The Sierra Nevada ski resort plans to start the season on December 2

The countdown begins for snow lovers. The technical services of the Sierra Nevada ski resort, in Monachil, in the metropolitan area of Granada, are working with the goal of opening its doors on December 2 for the new winter season, the first with its renewed snow production system .

From Cetursa, the public company that manages the winter season, they have detailed that, with water pumps and an air compressor, this new nerve center for snow production is expected to be activated one hundred percent next week with the arrival of a cold front that will last at least two days.

In this climatological context, characterized this autumn so far by warmer temperatures, the date of December 2, advanced this Friday by the director of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, Jesús Ibáñez, to Canal Sur Radio, takes shape compared to that of December 25. November, in any case before the Constitution holiday weekend, which is when ski resorts try to activate the start of their seasons in Spain.

On October 20, the highest areas of the Sierra Nevada were covered, after the passage of Storm Aline, with a white blanket of snow in areas above between 2,500 and 2,600 meters of altitude, which was an incentive for ahead of the start of the winter season.

The snow settled in the upper half of the ski area, with areas such as Borreguiles, with a thickness of ten centimeters of snow, which could rise to 20 in the area around Veleta.

The effect, indicated by Cetursa, is positive for the land because it means cooling and humidification after especially arid months. He also laid the foundations for a "change of mentality" for the snow industry in Granada, Andalusia and Spain.
