The sheriff of a town in Cáceres is arrested for the disappearance of a neighbor who won the lottery

The Civil Guard has arrested the sheriff of the Hinojal City Council (Cáceres) for the disappearance of Vicente Sánchez, a 79-year-old resident of the town considered a "vulnerable person" who had recently won the lottery.

This was stated to the Efe agency by the mayor of Hinojal, María Blanca Vivas, where the detainee had been working for more than 30 years. The councilor has shown the "stupefaction" that exists in this town of just over 400 inhabitants, where the news has fallen like "a blow."

As she explained, early this Thursday the neighbors began calling her to inquire about what was happening since there were several Civil Guard cars and some streets were being blocked, precisely where a brother of the detainee lives and the house. familiar. Although he spends a lot of time in Hinojal, the detainee usually resides in Cáceres with his wife and his son.

The mayor has also explained that since Vicente Sánchez did not have a car, the now detained man was in charge of taking him to many places, "whether going to the bullfights or other places." Although she does not believe that they became friends, "because Vicente is a fairly reserved person," they did trust each other and she has assured that until they tell her that he has a connection with his disappearance "we cannot believe it."

Vivas has pointed out that since Vicente disappeared, the sheriff has continued to work normally and participate in the search operations that have been organized. "It seems so strange to me that in a town of 400 inhabitants we have someone linked to a disappearance or something else."

As reported by the Civil Guard, as a result of the investigation that began last January, this Thursday morning the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police proceeded to arrest this person for his alleged involvement in the disappearance.

Three entry and search procedures have been carried out in the towns of Cáceres and Hinojal related to the case.

The Civil Guard has indicated that the operation remains open and the chief judge has decreed the secrecy of the proceedings.
