The rise of the Girondins, in danger after the attack of a radical on a rival footballer

The match between Girondins Bordeaux and Rodez, of the thirty-eighth day of the French Ligue 2 football, was suspended after a radical fan attacked a player from the visiting team, Lucas Buades, twenty-three minutes into the game.

The match, decisive for the Bordeaux team's promotion to Ligue 1, was played at the Matmut Atlantique stadium and the visitors had an advantage since Buades managed to score for Rodez in the 22nd minute, who were fighting for permanence.

Next, a Girondins supporter jumped onto the pitch and attacked Lucas Buades, who was celebrating the goal and fell to the ground. The referee interrupted the game and sent both teams to the locker room. The footballer was treated by the stadium's medical services and was taken to the hospital, according to some media, with a concussion.

Representatives of the two clubs together with the referee chose to suspend the decisive match for the aspirations of both. Girondins is third in the standings and may be left out of the promotion that Le Havre, leader, and Metz, second, are now aiming for. Rodez, meanwhile, marks the relegation zone, fourth from bottom, two points behind Annecy, sixteenth, at the expense of what happens with this match. With the victory, Rodez would achieve permanence.

"In view of what happened and the situation created when a spectator broke onto the pitch and attacked a Rodez player who had to be examined by his club's doctor and also by the emergency room, it was found that the footballer cannot resume the match and he suffers a concussion so, in agreement with the delegates and the French Professional League, we have respected the regulations and the match will not be resumed," announced the referee of the match, Rainville.

The situation and the outcome of the match is now in the hands of the Disciplinary Commission. A defeat will leave Bordeaux out of promotion to Ligue 1.
