The National Police is investigating whether the agent who died yesterday in Andújar (Jaén), in an event in which a man who attacked the agents was also killed, was killed by a random shot from a colleague while he was struggling with the alleged attacker.
The sub-delegate of the Government in Jaén, Catalina Madueño, has indicated this Monday that it will be the expert and forensic reports that determine the causes of the death of the national police officer.
Madueño, who attended the neighborhood rally outside the City Hall in Marmolejo - the town where the deceased policeman was from - pointed out that "until all the reports are in" it will not be possible to determine the reason for the agent's death .
Police sources have detailed to EFE that, pending the results of the autopsy and the ballistics analysis, the main hypothesis is that the agent who was struggling with the attacker armed with a knife and a hammer accidentally fired his weapon. which he carried in his left hand.
This can be seen in some of the videos broadcast through social networks recorded by the neighbors from their windows from the moment that around ten in the morning the attacker begins to knock on the door of a residential building in the Las Monjas de Andújar street due to a dispute.
When a National Police car arrives, one of the agents - the co-driver - gets out of the vehicle. The assailant heads towards him and as he runs backwards he stumbles and falls to the ground while holding the extendable defense in his right hand and the regulation weapon that he had previously mounted in his left, according to the sources.
It is then that the weapon is fired and the "lost" bullet presumably hits his partner who was going to his aid and who was initially seriously injured.
Meanwhile, and according to the sequence recorded by witnesses from their homes, the agent whose weapon was fired and who had fallen to the ground, receives a knife to the back and a blow to the head with the hammer by the assailant.
He is rescued by some neighbors and manages to get up from the ground badly injured while the assailant is shot down, although the sources consulted have not specified whether it was this policeman who finally shot him or other agents who came to the scene.
The wounded agent is admitted to the Andújar hospital, while the colleague with a bullet wound to the abdomen died at the health center after being transferred by his colleagues in a police vehicle already in cardiorespiratory arrest.
