Rescue operation underway. An Ethiopian army helicopter is heading to meet the 18 tourists and their guide, most of them Catalan, trapped in a hostel in northwest Ethiopia for 11 days.
The group, which was blocked by the violent revolt of the Fano militia, has been transferred this morning to a military base waiting to be evacuated.
Noelia Bertran, the group's guide, confirmed to this newspaper that they were waiting. "They have taken us to some kind of military base and we are waiting," she explained.
Although the initial plan was to organize a convoy of trucks from Bahr Dir, 90 kilometers to the south, an air rescue has been organized due to the insecurity in the area, where assaults and robberies have occurred on the highway in recent hours.
