The no to independence in Catalonia soars and exceeds the yes by more than 10 points

Those opposed to the independence of Catalonia are clearly in the majority and, on the other hand, and consequently, those in favor of secession are on the decline, according to the latest CEO. And with each barometer, this consolidated trend since 2019 widens. So much so that the survey published this Thursday shows both the highest figure recorded by the CEO since 2015 for no (52%) and the lowest for yes (41%). And with 11 points away, the largest difference recorded in seven years.

Those opposed to independence are up 4% compared to the previous wave of the CEO, in April. From 48 to 52%, which is the highest figure recorded – only in the summers of 2015 and 2020 had it reached 50%.

On the other hand, supporters of independence fell three points, from 44 to 41%, in these three months. In June 2017, just before the height of the sovereigntist process, with an autumn with a referendum, unilateral declaration and arrests, it was already at this 41%, but as of October it shot up for two years with figures always close to 50%.

Regarding the question about the preference of Catalonia's fit with the rest of Spain, where the respondent has four options, 34% advocate an independent State, while 30% are committed to continuing to be autonomous. Those in favor of federalism stand at 22%, and those who want Catalonia to be "a region of Spain" represent 8%. The series of this question shows a relative stability since the summer of 2019, with a slight upturn in the autonomist and regionalist options.

Where supporters and opponents of independence coincide is in applauding the path of negotiation. 70% of those who would vote yes to independence and 80% of those who would vote no think that there should be a dialogue path to resolve the conflict. A boost for a negotiation that was resumed this Wednesday with the third meeting of the dialogue table between representatives of Moncloa and the Generalitat.
