The new heat wave exacerbates the "extreme" risk of fires

The new heat wave that will shake a good part of the country and especially the south from tomorrow and at least until Wednesday, with maximum values of up to 44 degrees in addition to torrid nights of more than 25, threatens to aggravate the risk of forest fires and extend the extreme levels to almost the entire peninsula.

The prelude to this foreseeable second heat wave of the summer, as confirmed by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), after the one at the end of June, is already leaving very high temperatures today, especially in the center and south of the country, due to the approach of a Saharan air mass that will also affect the Balearic Islands.

This Sunday, seven autonomous communities remain on alert for suffocating heat, especially Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha, which are at an orange level, with a significant risk due to unusual temperatures and with a certain degree of danger for usual activities.

Predictably, the peak days of the new heat wave will arrive at the start of the week, which initially would only leave the extreme north and a large part of the northeastern coast out of its peninsular impact.

The weather alerts could be red or extreme in areas of the Guadalquivir valley, such as Jaén or the Cordoba countryside, for values of up to 44 degrees tomorrow, Monday, and up to 43 degrees on Tuesday, in northeastern areas such as Teruel, in the under Aragon, and on the banks of the Ebro in Zaragoza.

Due to the very high temperatures, the risk of fires at the moment is very high, and it will become extreme in a good part of the southern half and parts of the center tomorrow, Monday.

The next day these extreme levels of danger could spread even more to practically the entire peninsula with the exception of the coast, preferably the Cantabrian strip and northeast quadrant, according to the latest data from Aemet.

Civil Protection has alerted the population to the risk of forest fires due to the high temperatures in large areas of the country with an express appeal to notify 112 immediately of any discovery of fire and to take all necessary precautions to prevent its appearance.

This Sunday it is expected that 40 degrees will already be reached in the Guadalquivir valley, especially areas such as the Cordovan countryside, as well as the province of Jaén and Seville, and also in large parts of the interior of Granada.

Likewise, 39 degrees will be reached today on the Andalusian coast of Huelva and also in the interior of Malaga and Cádiz the thermometers will mark up to 38 degrees.

It could also register 39 degrees in areas with La Mancha from Albacete as well as in Hellín and Segura -also in that province- and it will also be very hot in Ciudad Real, up to 38 degrees, and up to 36 degrees, in La Mancha from Cuenca.

On the other hand, the suffocating heat also keeps the communities of Madrid, preferably in southern parts of the region, on alert today, although yellow slightly less than orange, and also Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and the Valencian Community, where It is expected that maximum values of between 36 and 39 degrees will be recorded.

The Madrid city council has reported that it maintains the heat wave protocol activated, which raises it to a red level due to temperatures that may exceed 40 degrees tomorrow, and has published a list of recommendations, including not going out during the hours hotter or do sports in sweltering times.

The Aemet forecast for tomorrow, Monday, is that the temperatures rise clearly in a good part of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with maximum temperatures above normal in a general way.

It will exceed 38 degrees in large areas of the interior of the peninsula and Mallorca, and 40 degrees in areas of the interior of the southern half of the peninsula, which will occasionally reach 44 degrees in the Guadalquivir valley.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, the intensification of the west and southwest wind will foreseeably cause a new rise in the eastern peninsula and the Ebro valley, where, as in Mallorca, temperatures can reach 40-42 degrees; on the contrary, the values will drop in the west and north of the peninsula.

In the Guadalquivir valley, very high temperatures will remain that day, exceeding 42 degrees, according to predictions.
