The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) is "the first administration in Spain to use digital mapping of the territory applied to the construction of public space, civil works and infrastructure," according to the metropolitan entity in a statement. To achieve this, they have combined a digital model with BIM (building information modeling) technology.
For the AMB, BIM models in the metropolitan area allow progress towards "intelligent and integrated" models in which data is connected to "monitor the useful life of an equipment or building", among other applications.
For example, this technology allows you to monitor solar radiation, optimize energy consumption, track the state of materials or analyze noise pollution, among other possibilities.
On the other hand, the metropolitan entity participates as a member in the technical committee for the digitalization of information for building and civil works. The AMB is committed to "creating regulations that standardize" the use of BIM technology in the architecture and engineering sector.
