The magical island of Cantabria

In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, I share a magical moment that occurs in the beautiful town of Isla, in Cantabria.

A Cantabrian Sea that winks at the placid Mediterranean, showing itself as a raft at 6:30 in the morning, with the heavenly music of the seagulls in the background, faithful companions of sailors who venture out to sea in search of their precious fish. silver.

Isla is a town belonging to the municipality of Arnuero, along with other towns such as Soano, Castillo Siete Villas and Arnuero. It is located in the region of Trasmiera.

Actually, the population is divided into two groups: Isla Pueblo, located in a higher area next to the church; and Isla Playa (mainly the Quejo neighborhood), located along the coastline of the estuary and the beaches to Cabo de Quejo.

Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, when the town of Isla was part of the Junta de las Siete Villas. Today we can find medieval towers such as Cabrahígo, Los Novales and Rebollar. All of them with the category of Asset of Cultural Interest.
