The look of the biggest serial killer

The Asian wasp has become a problem because it annihilates bee colonies, which are very important for pollination. She hunts them systematically, as if she were a real serial killer.

It's insatiable. It is not in vain that 84% of the diet of Asian wasps is bees. This invasive insect is a voracious, relentless hunter. To capture the bees, the wasp hovers at the entrance to the hives.

Its larger size allows it to capture a bee in flight and kill it, keeping only the thorax, which it transports to its nest to feed its larvae.

Bees are endangered by invasive species such as the Asian hornet. For this reason, the UN designated May 20 as World Bee Day. And the pollination favored by these insects is a fundamental process for the survival of our ecosystems.

Almost 90% of flowering plants depend on pollination to reproduce. Likewise, 75% of the world's food crops depend to some extent on pollination and 35% of global agricultural land, according to United Nations data.

I found an Asian wasp on the ground in the Pedralbes monastery. I have carefully held it in my hand with a tissue to be able to prepare this photographic report for La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

In this part of Barcelona, the Asian wasp has killed off the bees. In fact, several nests of this invasive species were located that had to be destroyed.

In fact, after taking these photographs, pest control specialists arrived at the monastery to remedy the presence of the Asian wasp. There are some holes in the stone wall of the enclosure where you can see that these wasps are,

They are a danger to all kinds of insects, but they destroyed the bees in the monastery. Also, you have to be careful with its sting. Due to its size, the bites cause more pain, since it is capable of inoculating a greater amount of venom. In any case, it generally prefers to flee from humans unless it has to defend its nest at all costs.
