The great and prolific writer Manuel de Pedrolo was born in the small medieval town of L'Aranyó, in La Segarra. A white sculpture in tribute to him shows us the way to be able to contemplate the infinite landscape of this region, as can be seen in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
Pedrolo, in his writings in Catalan, described the town like this:
"It looked like an abandoned village. No voice was ever heard, no light was ever discernible [...] The tower of the castle rose, neither too tall nor too slender, above the square mass of gray stone."
L'Aranyó belongs to the municipality of Els Plans del Sió, on the banks of the Sió river, at 461 meters of altitude. It is located 6 km from Cervera and is almost uninhabited.
Apart from the viewpoint with the sculpture of the illustrious writer, another point of interest are the two large, heavily eroded rocks of Sablon, not far from the town center, known as the stone haystacks due to their shape and which have given rise to a popular legend.
