The plenary session of the Valencian government has approved the new linguistic criteria for Valencian that the autonomous Administration and the public sector will use in their communications. The announcement was made this Monday, after the meeting of the regional executive, by the spokesperson of the Consell, Ruth Merino, who has defended the commitment of the Department of Education for a "clearer", "understandable" and "closer to the citizenship".
Merino has argued the need to "revalencianize" some of the criteria after the Botànic's passage through the institutions, given what she considers "the Catalanization of some words." The agreement that establishes the new linguistic criteria of the administration of the Generalitat repeals the resolution of November 23, 2016, of the General Directorate of Linguistic Policy and Management of Multilingualism of the left-wing government.
In her intervention before the media, the spokesperson for the Consell has stressed the intention of the executive chaired by Carlos Mazón to "get closer to the Valencian spoken on the street."
One of the keys to this new regulation, Merino explained, is that the new linguistic criteria, in addition to being applicable in the Administration of the Generalitat and its instrumental public sector, "will also be used in activities that have the collaboration or financing of the Generalitat through a subsidy, contract, agreement, sponsorship or other legal figures, when established in the regulatory norms, bases or clauses.
The criteria aim to bring the Valencian language of citizens closer to the administration, while at the same time opting for an appropriate language for formal communications, the Valencian government points out. Among other aspects, it is urged to use "terms of most frequent and common use", such as the forms acostar versus apropar, arreplegar before recollir, race before course, eixir before sortir, ferramenta before eina, faena before feina , expense before despesa or proxim before proper.
In addition, it is recommended to use the simple demonstratives este/a/os/es instead of aquest/a/os/es and inchoative verbs with the form -ix and not -eix.
In addition, the new criteria recommend using the adverbial phrase a on to indicate the place where you are or where you are going. To refer to the day on which one chooses, preferably use the variant hui, instead of avui.
Finally, the use of the neutral article lo is permitted in non-formal writings and oral communications, and the preposition per a is used with complements that indicate purpose or destination, as recommended by the AVL grammars.
