The Karlotta storm puts almost all of Spain on alert today, Saturday

The influence of the storm Karlotta today, Saturday, puts practically all of Spain on an orange or yellow warning due to strong gusts of wind, storms, coastal phenomena and significant snowfall in mountainous areas of the north and center of the peninsula.

According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the communities with an orange warning (significant risk) are Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia and the Basque Country.

In Andalusia, very affected by the drought, storms are expected with accumulations between 15 and 90 liters per square meter between one and twelve hours and wind gusts between 70 and 90 kilometers per hour (km/h), while in Galicia winds are expected of up to 70 km/h and snowfall in the mountains of Lugo.

Aragón, the Balearic Islands, Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, the Region of Murcia, Navarra, the Valencian Community, and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla will be on yellow notice (moderate risk).

More intense and abundant rainfall is expected in the extreme north, Central and Iberian systems and southeastern mountain ranges, without ruling out that they will be locally strong or persistent in the northern area of Navarra and southeastern mountain ranges.

In other areas they will be occasional, with a tendency to remit from west to east, but they will be unlikely in the lower reaches of the great Atlantic valleys and the Mediterranean area between Tarragona and Málaga.

The snow level in the Peninsula will be between 1,400/1,800 meters in the northeast, dropping to 900/1,200 meters, in the southeast at 1,600/1,800 meters, dropping to 1,000/1,400, and in the rest at 1,200/1,600. meters dropping to 800/1,000 meters.

In the Canary Islands, cloudy skies are expected with probable rainfall in the north of the islands, without ruling them out in the rest, with a drop in temperatures in the midlands and intervals of strong and/or very strong gusts.

Temperatures will drop in almost the entire country, notably in the interior of the peninsula and the Cantabrian Sea. Frosts are expected in the Cantabrian, Central and Iberian systems, southeastern mountain ranges and, more intense, in the Pyrenees, without ruling out that they will extend to adjacent areas of the Plateau.

There will be moderate westerly winds in most of the country, with strong intervals and/or very strong gusts also on the coasts of Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, the Mediterranean area and the mountains of the northern half and eastern third of the peninsula.
