The ingenious solution to avoid speeding without using traffic lights, radars or speed bumps

Speeding is a scourge that claims thousands of victims every year around the world. One in three traffic-related deaths is due to excessive or inappropriate speed, according to a report from the World Health Organization (WHO). For this reason, the authorities make every effort to ensure that drivers respect the speed limits.

In the urban area, one of the most effective measures to combat excessive speed on the roads consists of placing physical elements, such as speed bumps or roundabouts, or other control mechanisms, such as traffic lights or radars. This makes it much more likely that cars will travel at an appropriate speed and the risk of accidents will be reduced.

The installation of these elements, whatever they may be, entails an economic cost that in all cases is higher than painting road markings on the pavement. In many places we see, for example, how zebra crossings replace traffic lights so that pedestrians can cross the road.

In Bauné, a small town in western France located near Angers, in the Maine-et-Loire region, the authorities have opted for a curious initiative to combat the speeding of vehicles that circulate through the town.
