The influence of social conversation

It was in May 2021, when La Vanguardia and LLYC began to collaborate on an observatory of social conversation. The intention was to provide truthful information about the positioning, the different points of view and the influence that each of them was exerting on public opinion on selected current issues.

At LLYC we are convinced that data provide us with an essential vision to be able to understand the dynamics, risks and opportunities hidden behind the different topics that come to the news. Through conversation analysis we can identify the different approaches, who promotes them, their arguments, the media, and the traction they are gaining. Which allows us to obtain a more plural, more empathetic, realistic and quantified vision of the moment in which we live.

In the nine editions of our observatory, we have been able to anticipate the low influence of anti-vaccine groups in Spain (unlike other countries) largely due to the commitment of our health workers to dissemination, or the artificial pressure exerted by pro-Russian groups in the discussion about NATO and the war in Ukraine to generate social disaffection, and we have also seen the different perceptions that different professional associations have about AI and the future of their professions.

In this edition we analyze mobility in Spain, where the discovery that the analysis of social conversation brings us is the need to find coexistence formulas for different lifestyles within cities. This need is clearly identified by the polarization that exists in the debates produced in the conversation about pedestrianization, bicycles and cars, where the percentages of participation and confrontation are higher.

All of this would not be possible without the technological advances that have occurred in recent years, and which have continued to accelerate with the arrival of generative AI. Technologies that, when used well, allow us to identify the who, how and when in the different debates. which will help us better understand the situation, the momentum and the interests of those who participate in the debate (politicians, media, citizens and companies), to anticipate the pressures on public opinion and to build bridges between companies, institutions and society. for a commitment to progress.
