The 'house of the ous' that seduced John Malkovich

When the Torre de la Creu de Sant Joan Despí was built between 1913 and 1916 to establish a summer residence, no one imagined that, a century later, it would end up seducing an actor like John Malkovich, who, it is said, wanted to buy it.

This is what the actor has expressed, in fact, who acknowledged that one of his dreams was to be able to shoot a film about some characters locked up in this old estate declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest as a Historical Monument.

It is a unique building, which has five circular cylinders that house the rooms, which are accessed by climbing winding spiral stairs.

Its original domes at the top of the house are reminiscent of a handful of eggs, as seen in these photographs in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos, which is why it is also known as the Tower or Casa dels Ous.

The building is the work of modernist architect Josep Maria Jujol, one of Antoni Gaudí's collaborators. He was the most risky and avant-garde in the conception of the designs. In fact, he even delved into expressionism.
