The Girona employers reprimand the Government for its lack of interest in the Ryder Cup

The statements of councilor Ester Capella about the celebration of the Ryder Cup in Girona in 2031 in an interview published this weekend in La Vanguardia have not sat well with the Federation of Business Organizations of Girona (FOEG), which reprimands the the Government's lack of interest in this global golf competition, which every two years faces the team from Europe and the United States.

The Girona employers' association demands that the Generalitat provide data” to the arguments that Capella put forward in this interview, in which he pointed out that the Ryder Cup does not provide added value unlike other international events such as the America's Cup.

Businessmen find it "incomprehensible" that both sporting events are compared "without offering arguments or economic impact studies" to support a statement of this caliber. In this sense, the employers urge the Government to publicly present these studies.

Since the Camiral Golf facilities in Caldes de Malavella were proposed as a possible venue to host this championship, the business sector has always remained in favor of celebrating this sporting event, claiming great benefits in terms of economy (they estimate an economic impact of 1.3 billion euros) and international projection.

The group adds that work is being done to adapt to all the conditions imposed by the Generalitat, which has ruled out the construction of a third golf course.

On the other hand, the College of Economists of Catalonia, which yesterday held its board meeting in Caldes de Malavella, is also asking the Generalitat for its support for the Ryder Cup.

The president in Girona, Lluís Bigas, highlights that the organization is making a “great effort” so that the competition can be held in Catalonia. Its dean, Carlos Puig de Travy, indicated that it is a “historic opportunity that cannot be missed.”
