The Generalitat buys 395 flats from BBVA

The Generalitat has acquired a package of 395 homes through the trial and withdrawal formula from BBVA to expand the public social rental stock. These are homes that were already managed by the Generalitat through a transfer agreement but that are now permanently integrated into the public park, made up of more than 18,200 apartments.

This operation increases the public stock and ensures that vulnerable families living in these apartments cannot lose it.

The homes are located in 80 municipalities in Catalonia and more than 75% are located in Barcelona and the metropolitan region.

The Government has already acquired a thousand apartments in the last year, through trial and also with purchases from large holders.

The cost of the purchase by the Territori department of the 395 BBVA homes amounts to 17.7 million euros.

The trial purchase of homes is one of the formulas to expand the public housing stock quickly and effectively and, in many cases, to maintain the accommodation of the families who live there and who often have few resources.

In this case, the homes acquired from BBVA have been purchased at an agreed unit price of 45,000 euros per apartment, a fact that has meant a saving of 42% compared to the average of acquisitions made by trial in 2023, which was 77,390 euros.

There are 44 flats in Barcelona. There are also them in Hospitalet de Llobregat (38), Sabadell (33), Terrassa (25), Rubí (18), Santa Coloma de Gramenet (15), Cornellà de Llobregat (14) or Ripollet (13), among others . And in Girona (7), Lleida (10) and Tarragona (11).

The acquisitions of apartments through this preferential purchase route are part of the Government's program to incorporate 10,000 homes in the social rental stock of Catalonia until 2026. Of these 10,000, 500 were obtained through trial and error. With closed data for 2023, the total number of apartments purchased has been 544, with a final investment of 42.1 million euros.

This same program also provides for the purchase of residential buildings from large owners, through which 444 apartments located in different municipalities have already been acquired, for an amount of nearly 70 million.
