The Facebook subcontractor in Barcelona raises 334 layoffs due to the drop in activity

The Facebook subcontractor that controls the contents of the social network from the Torre de Agbar in Barcelona has presented an employment regulation file (ERE) to the works council to dismiss 334 workers, as confirmed by CC.OO. Sources from the Empresa i Treball department assured that they have received the file and that they will work to reduce the impact. The staff is about 2,300 people, according to CC.OO.

The subcontractor is called CCC, although it was acquired by the Canadian Telus. Facebook landed in Barcelona in 2018 with half a thousand workers who occupied eight floors of the iconic building in the Catalan capital.

Sources of CC.OO. They explained that they are going to analyze the documentation that has been provided to them. the company. The objective of the committee -explained from the union- is to minimize the impact of people and, in the event that it is not possible, to obtain the maximum compensation.

The same union sources said that the company justified the adjustment in line with what happens in other technology companies in the world where layoffs have been carried out. In an email sent to the staff of the Facebook subcontractor, to which La Vanguardia has had access, it is ensured that there has been a decrease in the client's workload. That client is exclusively Facebook. In the same communication it is ensured that the affected areas are those that manage the content in Spanish, Italian and French.

The company also offers workers a relocation service.

The layoffs come after an ERTE for 680 people. In that process there were about 100 voluntary departures. Previously, last year the company had been penalized by the Labor Inspectorate of the Generalitat for not complying with the law for the prevention of psychosocial risks. A worker who was continually viewing violent images suffered from health problems. A Telus spokesman assured weeks ago that the ERTE is not related or connected to the sanction. "Telus vigorously contested the findings of the case and appealed the ruling in court," according to the spokesperson.
